Allaah has told us that he will forgive all sins for the one who repents to Him. He says interpretation of the meaning :. Despair not of the Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah forgives all sins.
With regard repentance from shirk in particular and the acceptance thereof, Allaah says interpretation of the meaning :. The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace;. Allaah mentions the kufr and shirk of the Christians, then calls them to repent. And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall on the disbelievers among them. Will they not turn with repentance to Allaah and ask His forgiveness?
No matter how great the sin, the forgiveness, generosity and kindness of Allaah is greater. All you have to do is to turn to Allaah, regret what you did and resolve not to do it again. If a person repents to Allaah, Allaah accepts his repentance and forgives him. Some examples include when somebody turns to a source outside of Allah for help or guidance. This might include praying to a source of nature for assistance, such as a river, mountain, or even the sun, or even attributing lucky qualities to an inanimate object.
Wearing a talisman, carrying around good luck objects, or even reserving a lucky item of clothing for a big day could all be considered inappropriately associating another power with the power that should be limited only to Allah.
Of course, such manifestations are more complicated than when shirk is much more explicit, and includes the actual belief in multiple gods or deities. Today, however, as polytheism has become less widely practices, the discussions of shirk in many Muslim communities includes these more subtle distinctions of practices.
Some people even believe that fortune-telling, magic, and other activities designed to see into the future or peer into the afterlife could be considered shirk, because one is seeking answers from people, and powers developed by people, and not from Allah.

Salam alaikum, You know the verse in surah nisa that states that Allah will not forgive that partners should be set up with Him but He forgives what is besides that I'm lost on this subject of shirk bcs i've seen it being said if one committs shirk in their lifetime and they repent before death inshallah Allah will forgive but if a person dies with it unrepented, they are surely in the hellfire for eternity.
How do the scholars come to the intepretation that the ayah means if we repent from shirk b4 death we are forgiven and if we dont, hellfire is destined for us when the ayah states what is BESIDES that indicating everything is forgivable BUT shirk? Could someone explain?
Google ads Report bad ads? Re: forgiveable or unforgiveable? Wa alaykum salam, Please relax, what you understand about shirk being unforgivable unless repented for is correct. Scholars don't just look at one verse in isolation and reach conclusions based on that.
They look at the context, they look at other verses, the circumstance the verse was revealed under and much more than I could ever realise and not to mention the sayings of the Prophet sallalahu alaihe wassalam.
